ECOWAS Region ShEquity Business Accelerator (SHEBA) 2023 for Female Entrepreneurs (US$50K and $250K in Funding)
DEADLINE: April 21, 2023
The ShEquity Business Accelerator (SHEBA) 2023 is now accepting applications. The 17-week SHEBA program offers venture development and technical assistance to female African entrepreneurs throughout the ECOWAS area who want to expand their companies and become investment-ready.
ShEquity and MBC Africa, its implementation partner, established SHEBA in March 2021 to address the gender funding gap by de-risking African female-led businesses, making them investment-ready, and providing the founders with the necessary skill set to expand and develop their companies.
With participants from the following nations: Benin, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Guinea, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, and Togo, the SHEBA program has run three (3) cohorts of 30 participants each..
ABOUT SHEBA
SHEBA concentrates on scalable, impactful enterprises in agribusiness (including agritech, production, processing, wholesale, and retail, as well as all other areas of the agribusiness value chain), fast-moving consumer goods (FMCGs), healthcare, mobility/logistics, and tech-enabled businesses (fintech, clean tech, ed tech, etc.).
SHEBA is positioned as the bridge to bridging the gender financing gap in Africa with only 2.4% of the total money raised by startups in Africa in 2022 ( $4.8 billion) raised by female-only founding teams. The accelerator program focuses on business development, finances, legal & governance, human resources & leadership, marketing & communications, as well as impact measurement in order to allay investors' worries and investment risks. Hands-on market testing, executive coaching, mentorship sessions, and chances to tap into ShEquity and MBC Africa's pan-African and international networks all support this investor-focused strategy.
Benefits
SHEBA offers the chance to get finance from ShEquity and other investors within the ShEquity network in addition to the strong program development focus.
Qualifying enterprises are suggested to the ShEquity team for investment consideration after the accelerated program.
Between US$50K and $250K is the normal range for a ShEquity seed investment, with the possibility of extra post-investment support.
Eligibility
Available to female business owners in Africa.
Businesses of applicants must be legally registered in ECOWAS nations;
having a minimum of 51% female ownership and management;
have been active for at least a year.
