Call for Proposals: Hackathon for Young Girls in the Field of Digital (Ivory Coast)

UNDP is now inviting proposals for the Hackathon for Young Girls in the Field of Digital Theme: “Women, Empower Yourself with Digital.


UNDP Côte d’Ivoire recognizes that women’s full participation and decision-making in innovation, technological change and digitalization is a prerequisite for delivering transformative impact and achieving the SDGs. Also, the gender focal team of the office and the United Nations Volunteers Program plan to organize from March 28 to 31, 2023, a hackathon for young girls working in the digital field whose Theme will be : “Woman, emancipate yourself with the digital.

In Côte d’Ivoire, the issue of equal access for women to the digital world is an example of the national challenge. The national theme arising from the global theme “Technological and digital innovations: levers for the social and economic inclusion of women will explore the impact of the digital gender gap on the widening of economic and social inequalities; protect women’s rights in digital spaces and raise awareness on issues of online and ICT-facilitated gender-based violence.

Objective
The overall objective of this activity is to interest women from various social strata in innovation and new technologies, in reference to the theme of International Women’s Day.

Specifically, it will be:

To explore the impact of the gender gap in digital on the widening of economic and social inequalities: propose solutions to raise women’s awareness of digital and help them get out of their comfort zone, and take an interest in this very vast sector in which everyone can find a fulfilling opportunity.

Propose ways to protect women’s rights in digital spaces; Although mentalities are changing, the world of ICT still experiences a lack of diversity. This is mainly explained by the brakes and psychological barriers that women can put on themselves vis-à-vis the world of Technology.

To raise awareness on issues of online and ICT-facilitated gender-based violence.Enable young girls to identify and design innovative digital solutions in order to anticipate developments in certain areas of activity.

Functionally implement monitoring and digital tracking technologies.Integrate texts and security standards aimed at regulating and monitoring the use of these technologies.

Stimulate the innovation and creativity of young girls and allow them to be actors of sustainable development and access to socio-professional experience.
Introduce women food traders to the use of digital platforms for sales some product.

Train the women and carry out the experimentation through a simulation exercise.

Themes
The Hackathon is an event during which young women in the field of ICTs will be supported in the formulation of their projects with reference to two themes:

Training and employability of women in digital professions: the objective is to offer innovative solutions that will make it possible to educate women in digital professions, to identify professions in this field; connect / put in contact companies and profiles (competent women who have experience in this field).

Digital-related gender-based violence: the objective is to protect and identify, alert mechanism, develop an application that identifies the type of GBV, the place, etc, develop educational content for the population.

Expected results
Innovative digital solutions are identified and designed in order to anticipate the evolution in certain fields of activity such as mechanics, the digital market…
Monitoring technologies are implemented in a functional manner;Security texts and standards aimed at regulating and monitoring the use of these technologies are integrated.

The innovation and creativity of young girls are stimulated and allow them to be actors of sustainable development and to gain access to socio-professional experience.Women market traders are trained in the use of digital platforms to market their products.

Eligibility Criteria
The competition is open to any girl student-engineer in computer science, web/mobile developers, data scientist, mechanic, electrician, etc. aged between 18 and 40 of Ivorian nationality residing in the national territory of Côte d’Ivoire.
Each candidate must bring their own computer. Technologies and development software are to be chosen by the candidates.

An internet connection will be available on the site for the needs of the candidates. The number of candidates is set at twenty-four (24). Before the start of the competition, the candidates will be able to present their idea during a speech of five (05) minutes. Similar projects will be merged and groups will be formed according to the projects that have the most resemblance.
